Durag Festival controversy: an open letter

WRITTEN MAY 29, 2019

This is an open letter to the public:

Despite our many efforts to stay true to our cause in creating a festival for the black community, we continue to receive criticism and claims of “scamming” perpetuated by a third-party that believes to be the rightful owners of the Durag Festival brand.

This is confusing, especially to the thousands excited and eager to attend another Durag Festival like the first Durag Fest held on June 15, 2018. For the record, we are the organizers and creators of the first Durag Fest held on June 15, 2018. We originated the name. We secured the artists, musicians, DJs, models, designers, food vendors and all involved that made, and makes, Durag Fest… Durag Fest.

While it’s disheartening to see individuals continue to perpetuate what we know and believe as falsehoods, we are committed to what Durag Festival is about; a celebration of black community and unity.

For any still seeking answers on this matter, we’re happy to address them at press@duragfestival.com. This is the only place where we will address such concerns. In the meantime, we’ll be working hard to produce our 2nd Annual Durag Fest on June 15, 2019. We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Durag Festival Team
